Born on August 1st, 1956, Doug Burgum, the Governor of North Dakota, is seeking the Republican Party nomination in the 2024 presidential primaries. Burgum had to work his way through college and ended up graduating from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in university studies and Stanford University with a master’s in business administration. Burgum created and completely transformed the company, Great Plains Software, from a small startup company to an award-winning, billion-dollar, tech firm, employing thousands of people  from over 220 cities across North Dakota. Using his experience as a business leader, Doug is revitalizing North Dakota by diversifying the economy and creating 21st century jobs. Under his leadership, North Dakota is leading the nation by quickly advancing in the energy, agriculture, and technology sectors. Burgum’s initiative and hard work is rooted in his small-town upbringing and the challenges he encountered throughout his life, such as his father’s death. His father passed away when he was just a freshman in high school, leading Burgum to understand that life is short and that he wanted to take every opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives. Burgum was awarded the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award for his philanthropic efforts on youth and education as well as his business leadership. Elected as North Dakota Governor in 2016, and in 2020 for a second term, he enacted the largest tax cut in North Dakota history. His top priorities as a presidential candidate are the economy, energy, and national security. As he has done for North Dakota, he plans to implement tax cuts nationwide, get inflation under control, lower gas prices, and reduce the cost of living. As the creator of a widespread software company and Governor of one of the largest energy producing states in the US, Burgum looks forward to a future where energy and innovation intersect.
